I just got word today of a short film that came out last year starring one of the actors from ‘The Last Samurai.’ It is a historcal film about the early Japanese converts to Christianity.

I cannot seem to locate if it is avaialable on DVD, but the trailer for ‘Good Soil’ starring Shin Koyamada can be found on youtube:

While Akira Kurosawa may not be well-known to Americans in general, his contributions to cinema (particularly American) are very well known.

Kurosawa’s techniques and stories have influenced such films as Star Wars, the Magnificent Seven, A Fistful of Dollars, and even A Bug’s Life.

I found this short film that goes over his career and his incredible influence.
